About Anton

Born in the Soviet occupied Ukraine in 1961, 16 years after the war that left deep scars on the people. Some of his family and neighbours were sent to Siberia, persecuted for their faith, and even killed.

Anton graduated as an A student from high school and then was accepted at a local university for Architecture. Unfortunately, he was expelled after one year due to politics, and subsequently sent off to fight in Afghanistan with the Russian incursion in the 1980’s.

He graduated with distinction from a five- year program at Ternopil Pedagogical University with a degree in fine art. He then immigrated to Canada in 1990.

Under the mentorship of Heiko Conrad Schlieper, Anton was hired to assist in the painting of St. George’s Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church in Edmonton. It is during this time that Anton came to faith and developed a clear understanding of the necessity of theology in informing his art.

His major work was in painting the interior of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Calgary, starting in the mid 1990’s and completed in 2001.
